Google Vacation Rentals can place eligible inventory in Google’s travel surfaces and send travelers to booking landing pages. It is not activated by adding ordinary SEO copy or a schema block. Participation depends on eligibility, connectivity, accurate inventory data, and Google’s review process.

Quick answer

Start with these three points

  • Most independent hosts connect through an approved software or connectivity partner.
  • Google says free booking links can refer travelers to direct booking landing pages without a referral commission.
  • VacationRental schema alone does not create a Google Vacation Rentals feed or guarantee enrollment.

01

What Google Vacation Rentals is

Google describes a vacation-rental search experience across Search, Maps, and Google Travel. Eligible listings can include rates, availability, photos, descriptions, amenities, reviews, approximate location, and booking-link redirects. Travelers can filter by price, property type, occupancy, amenities, and rating.

Google’s documentation says free booking links can direct users to a partner’s booking site at no cost for the referral. The property still bears its own software, transaction, marketing, and operating costs.

02

Who is eligible?

Google’s current starter guide says vacation rentals may be listed when the business is a registered property-management business with a direct-booking website or is already listed on a booking site integrated with Google Vacation Rentals. It also says shared rooms, partial houses, and peer-to-peer rentals are not currently eligible for direct integration under that path.

Google reviews eligibility and may request business verification. An expression of interest does not guarantee acceptance.

03

The three common connection paths

Ways inventory can reach Google Vacation Rentals
PathWho it fitsWhat to verify
Approved connectivity partnerMost owners and managers using supported PMS or channel softwareEligibility, property type, fees, feed timing, and landing-page destination
Existing integrated booking siteProperties already distributed through a participating platformWhich brand and booking link appear
Direct partner integrationQualified software providers or larger managers with technical resourcesGoogle review, feeds, certification, price accuracy, and ongoing maintenance

Google maintains a current list of vacation-rental connectivity partners. Ask the provider to confirm the exact program and account setup rather than assuming a logo means every property is eligible.

04

What data Google needs

A functioning integration can require property identity and location, content, images, amenities, occupancy, rates, availability, restrictions, taxes and fees, landing-page URLs, and booking details. Google emphasizes accurate prices, healthy feeds, complete itinerary coverage, and rich property content.

The landing page should preserve the property, dates, occupancy, and price context the traveler selected. Sending every click to a generic homepage creates friction and can violate referral-experience expectations.

05

Free booking links and direct reservations

Google states that free booking links can send travelers to direct booking sites with no Google referral or booking fee. That does not make the reservation costless. The operator may still pay the connectivity provider, PMS, booking engine, payment processor, tax systems, insurance, and marketing expenses.

Track Google-originated sessions separately using supported analytics and booking-engine attribution. Measure completed net revenue, not only clicks.

06

VacationRental schema: what it does and does not do

Google documents a VacationRental structured-data type with detailed eligibility and property requirements, including required identifiers, geolocation, occupancy, and multiple images. Google also states that the feature is limited to sites connected through its program and subject to additional steps.

Schema can help describe eligible listing content. It is not a substitute for connectivity, rate and availability feeds, Hotel Center requirements, or approval. Do not add fabricated ratings, unavailable prices, or fields that are not visible and accurate.

Host setup checklist

  1. Confirm the property type and business are potentially eligible.
  2. Ask the current PMS or channel manager whether it is an approved Google Vacation Rentals partner.
  3. Confirm which rates, availability, fees, and content are sent.
  4. Audit property identity, images, amenities, capacity, and coordinates.
  5. Test the exact booking landing page and price continuity.
  6. Confirm the direct website’s policies, checkout, payment, and mobile experience.
  7. Configure attribution and complete test reservations.
  8. Monitor feed errors, price accuracy, availability, and landing-page behavior.
08

Common mistakes

  • Assuming a Google Business Profile automatically creates Vacation Rentals inventory
  • Believing schema alone enrolls a property
  • Using stale calendars or incomplete prices
  • Sending clicks to the wrong property or generic homepage
  • Ignoring mobile checkout after the referral
  • Promising eligibility before Google or the connectivity partner confirms it
  • Failing to distinguish Google referral traffic from ordinary organic search
09

Is Google Vacation Rentals worth it?

It can be a valuable additional discovery channel for eligible operators with accurate data and a strong direct-booking experience. Evaluate the software cost, implementation burden, property eligibility, lead quality, conversion, and net revenue. Treat it as one channel within a diversified strategy—not a replacement for brand, SEO, repeat guests, or other distribution.
